Gail Orcut - Radon & You

On January 8, 2015, Gail Orcut joined us to talk about Radon in our homes.   Gail is a lung cancer survivor, but asked herself how she got lung cancer since she had never smoked.   It was then realized that Radon in her house was likely linked to her getting lung cancer.

Radon comes from the ground and there are approximately 400 related deaths a year in the state of Iowa from Radon cancer.   The Iowa Cancer Society suggests that you test your home every two years for Radon.   If your house does need a Radon mitigation system, on average, one costs about $1,500.   One interesting fact that Gail shared is that this cost is considered a medical need and can be used by your medical flex dollars through your employer.
